Arte ry

Arte is an artists’ association founded in 1960 by Turku based visual artists. Today the association has about one hundred members. Arte’s membership is open for all visual art professionals; artists, curators, researchers, producers, critics etc.

The association runs the oldest contemporary art space of the city, Titanik, which was founded in 1988. Ten years later Arte established an international artist residency, which has focused specifically on sound art since 2013.

Arte serves its members by providing information about open vacancies, exhibition and residency calls as well as interesting art events in Finland and abroad. Arte discusses actively local cultural politics and looks after artists’ benefits.

Apply fo Membership

Arte membership is open to professionals working in the field of contemporary art: artists, curators, researchers, critics and producers. The association has 60 years of history behind it, but is looking firmly to the future and new experimental ideas. Arte offers its members, among other things, work opportunities, art networks, an annual opportunity to stand for election to Arte’s board and to directly influence the association’s activities, as well as free admission to museums in Turku and other selected art museums (including HAM). The membership fee is 25e/year.

We hope you will have a proven track record of professionalism. They should have a professional or residential connection to Turku or Southwest Finland. In the selection of members, the applicant’s demonstrated interest in participating in the association’s activities and becoming a member of the artist community will be taken into account. We welcome applications from people in the field of art who contribute to current critical debates in contemporary art through their work.

How to apply for membership: send a free-form application (including CV) describing your work, your experience in the arts, what you expect from Art and what you want to do in the association and Titanik. Above all, we are interested in what kind of tool you see the art association as and what you would be interested in doing as a member of the association. Please send your application to Arte and Titanik’s Executive Director at director@arte.fi
